Injection technology is an effective way to improve the technical application of blast furnace in ironmaking. In order to reduce the shortage of main coking coal in China and increase energy efficiency in iron casting, coking coal blending is usually necessary and more than 50% of main coking coal is required to meet the standard of coking carbon quality level in blast furnace ironmaking.
However, in order to mitigate the environmental impact of ironmaking and curb greenhouse gas emissions, advanced steam plants with higher efficiency boilers and turbines are being developed. These new systems operate at extreme temperatures and pressures, and require cost-effective materials that can withstand these conditions for long periods of time. By operating at these conditions, CO2 emissions can be reduced by 20 to 25%.
One of the challenges of reducing CO2 emissions in traditional coal-fired power generation systems is the dilute concentration of CO2 in the flue gas stream. However, oxyfuel or Oxy-fired systems, where combustion reactions take place in oxygen-enriched environments, produce primarily CO2 and H2O as combustion products. The CO2 can easily be captured for permanent geological sequestration by condensing the H2O. However, there are technological challenges to oxyfuel systems, such as cost-effective oxygen production and the impact of the combustion environment on the performance of the boiler's materials of construction.
Overall, there is a push towards more environmentally-friendly and efficient methods in the ironmaking and power generation industries. The development of advanced steam plants and oxyfuel systems are just some examples of the technological advancements aimed at mitigating the impact of these industries on the environment.
