一,What is ferroalloy
Ferroalloy refers to the general term of the alloy composed of iron and silicon,manganese, titanium and other elements. It cannot be used to cast parts directly, and can only be used as a reducing agent or additive in the casting or steelmaking process. Ferrosilicon and ferromanganese are commonly used in casting iron alloys.
二,classification of ferroalloys
There are many varieties of ferroalloys, which are generally classified according to the following methods.
(1) A single iron alloy, containing only one alloying element. The main are ferrosilicon, ferromanganese, industrial silicon, metal manganese, ferrochrome and so on.
(2) Composite ferroalloys containing two or more alloying elements. The main products are calcium silicon alloy, manganese silicon alloy, chromium silicon,calcium aluminum silicon, manganese silicon aluminum, calcium barium silicon,barium silicon aluminum alloy, etc.
(3)According to the classification of carbon content, there are high carbon,medium carbon, low carbon, micro carbon, micro carbon and other varieties.
三,the use of ferroalloy
Ferroalloy is one of the essential and important raw materials in steel industry and mechanical casting industry.
(1) As a deoxidizer, remove excess oxygen in the liquid steel. The process of steelmaking is to decarburize hot metal and remove harmful impurities such as phosphorus and sulfur by blowing oxygen or adding oxidizer. In order to get good mechanical properties of steel, it is necessary to add some elements with oxygen binding force stronger than iron, remove the O in the liquid steel in the way of slag, this process is called deoxidation, and the alloy used for deoxidation is called dehydrogenation agent.
The bonding strength of various elements to oxygen in molten steel, that is, the deoxidation capacity, from weak to strong, is as follows: chromium, manganese,carbon, silicon, vanadium, titanium, boron, aluminum, zirconium, calcium.Therefore, the general steel deoxidation is commonly used by silicon,manganese, alum calcium composed of iron alloy.

(2) As an additive, improve the quality and performance of steel. Alloy steel is adjusted to have different properties by adding iron alloys. The ferroalloy used to adjust the alloying element content in steel is called alloying agent,and the commonly used alloying agent is the ferroalloy containing silicon,manganese, chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, tungsten, titanium, diamond, nickel,boron, niobium, zirconium and other elements.
