Low carbon ferrochrome is an iron alloy composed of iron and silicon. Low carbon ferrochrome is an iron-silicon alloy made of coke, steel chips, quartz (or silica) as raw materials and smelted by electric furnace.

Scope and function of application

 

(1) Used as deoxidizer and alloying agent in steelmaking industry. Widely used in low alloy structural steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel and electrical silicon steel.

(2) Used as inoculant and nodulator in the cast iron industry.

(3) Used as a reducing agent in the production of ferroalloy. Not only the chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is very large, but also the carbon content of high-silicon low-carbon ferrochrome is very low. Therefore, high silicon and low carbon ferrochrome (or silicon alloy) is a common reducing agent in the ferroalloy industry when producing low carbon ferroalloys.

(4) Low carbon ferrochrome is often used in the high temperature smelting process of magnesium metal in the Pijiang process, the magnesium in CaO.MgO is replaced, and about 1.2 tons of low carbon ferrochrome is consumed per ton of magnesium metal, which plays a great role in the production of magnesium metal.

(5) For other purposes. The low carbon ferrochrome powder, which has been milled or atomized, can be used as a suspended phase in the mineral processing industry. In the welding rod manufacturing industry can be used as welding rod coating. High silicon and low carbon ferrochrome can be used in the chemical industry to make products such as silicone.
